A Quick Recap from this episode

Today we’re talking about one of our favorite subjects to worry about: imposter syndrome. I’m going to share with you some of the signs and symptoms of imposter syndrome and how it might be something you’re experiencing over and over again. I want to share the things that I do to quiet my inner imposter (which I still have even after all these years in business because we’re all constantly learning and growing).

Before I get into the tips I have for how I quiet my inner imposter, I think we need to take a moment to get on the same page. Here are a few signs and symptoms of imposter syndrome:

- Believing that you don’t know enough to offer coaching
- Convincing yourself that you don’t know what you’re talking about
- Constantly comparing yourself to others
- Having a hard time explaining what you do
- Getting wrapped up in perfectionism (which leads to long execution times or even delayed execution altogether)
- You shy away from asking for feedback or anything that could lead to rejection
- Regularly undermining the value of what you have to offer (which manifests by vastly undercharging or constantly discounting your price)

So now that we can recognize imposter syndrome, let’s dive into the 4 ways that I personally quiet that inner imposter when it sneaks up:

1. I revisit my market research.

This is something that I have all of my clients do (conducting market research) and it is so important. Once most of my clients go through the market research, that imposter syndrome starts to go away. When you know what your potential clients need and are struggling with, you start to see all the ways that you as the coach can help them.

2. I prioritize creating more and before I consume.

This is mainly in terms of creating content, and I prioritize doing that both more than I consume and before I consume. When I say consume I mean reading, watching, or taking in other people’s content. I tap into my own creative knowledge and power and what I want to create for my clients and that’s reflected in the way that I time block my schedule and the amount of time I spend on social media platforms.

3. I tap into my next level identity.

This is something we work on in the Wealthy Coach Blueprint. We create an identity that we really want to step into as a coach who doesn’t deal with imposter syndrome and is able to sell out their program confidently and show up for their clients. For me, this is my “Tess 2.0” version and I think about how she would handle these thoughts, approach creating content, and show up for these clients.

4. I question myself and ask myself “How am I not in integrity with what I’m asking my clients to do?”

This is the final but probably most important thing that I do to quiet imposter syndrome. Most often when we feel like a failure or a fraud, we’re usually not actually doing something that we’re asking our clients to do. Integrity is so important, especially as a coach. Maybe the reason we often feel “icky” about what we do or what we’re offering is because we’re out of integrity with what we’re asking of others.

So those are the 4 things I do that shut down that inner imposter and hopefully you can use this as a checklist for when you’re feeling it too.
