Let’s have some real talk. I wanted to discuss the promised unrealistic solutions that fall flat. I’m calling out the industry, but I also just wanted to share what can help solve these issues and set realistic expectations.

When you’re building your business, there’s not a lot of resources available to money coaches to help you know what to do next. We typically look at the gaps in our business and try to fill those without setting a strong foundation for ourselves. These leads us to look for marketing and sales quick fixes.

People are promising us these “one-and-done” solutions, but the reality is that marketing and sales are not crash course, set-it-and-forget-it types of things. If you want to build a business, you have to be thinking about marketing and selling on a regular basis. This is the expectation that hasn’t been set for most of us as we get into online business.

I thought I could do all these passive things without validating that the course I was creating was something that my clients even wanted, and I saw very limited results. I didn’t understand the importance of that validation process, and didn’t set realistic expectations, and that’s where online business and this digital space that we’re in has failed us.

So here’s the wrench that I’m going to throw into this: those marketing funnels and courses that you’ve invested in that someone has created for you…the majority of them are effective, but the expectations that are set for them (the quick fix solutions) are false. They’re sold as the solutions that you can implement quickly to get fast results, when the reality is that you may need to do some more niching work or validate your offer with your potential clients first or something else in addition to learning that sales or marketing skill.

The problem with this is that when these solutions are taught they’re taught as the quick fixes they’re being sold as and you’re not being taught how to implement them long term, leaving you frustrated when you don’t get the quick results you were hoping for and you still don’t have the long term solutions that you actually needed in the first place.

So this is a PSA: building a business is a lifestyle. It’s something that you’re going to have to put time and money into, find what works for you, and build something that’s sustainable and (hopefully) scalable.
