WW 151: That Online Course Won’t Make You Rich If You Don’t Do This First - Solo Show

When we feel like we’re missing something or not doing something correctly, we buy external resources like online courses to help us. These external purchases that we make can’t substitute the mindset work that we need to do to create real change. We have to change the way we think and find things that make us feel whole, and in this episode, I’m talking about why we feel the need to feel this void, and how to actually solve our problem. A Quick Recap from this episode

This one if for the service based businesses who are about to invest in (or even launch) an online course. I know the title is a little long, but I think we’re going to cover a topic that’s in more broad than the title suggests. You can apply this to such much more than making money in your business.

All these external resources - the course, the coach, the best budgeting app - don’t work because we aren’t ready to allow them to work for us. It sounds a little strange, but the truth of the matter is, internally we don’t have the right thoughts that lead to the right feelings to accept those resources and be able to apply them to our lives.

You have to approach things with the right thoughts in order for them to flow and be easy. Everyone has what it takes to achieve their goals, but when we try something and it doesn’t work, we just move on to a different program, a different app, etc. and we start to internally tell ourselves this like “I’m never going to be good at this.” That self-talk creates the results that perpetuate the reality of a downward negative spiral.

You have to build the mindset to make these external things work for you.

Let’s take it one step further, because I’ve been seeing this a lot. We believe that the next thing that we buy or person that we hire is going to have the solution for us and be the magic pill that turns us into a success story. You need to reframe the way of think of and approach these external solutions.

We fall short when we don’t commit fully to the solution we’re buying into. We have to identify where we’re coming from when we purchase these things. What state are you in? What problem are you trying to solve? You need to be really open about where your business is and how you’re feeling about your goals.

Don’t let your current circumstances decide how you think and feel.

We typically want more than our current circumstances, so we set goals and purchase solutions and do things based on where we’re currently at and then they don’t work. If you want to change, you have to change how you think and how you’re processing these thoughts.

Lastly, you need to determine what kind of void you’re trying to fill by buying these things. Whether it’s business solutions or impulse buying in your personal life, you have to figure out the why. The way that we feel about our current circumstances perpetuates the thoughts and feelings of unfulfillment. When we feel these negative feelings, it creates a void and our subconscious mind tries to fill that void, usually by buying things.

Start recognizing those trigger points that put you in this state. Do some thought work to change how you react to these moments. Then make a list of all of the ways you love to spend your time and the things you truly love doing. Not just the things that we’ve been trained to believe make us happy, but things you genuinely love to do like reading, knitting, or running. Stop allowing yourself to feel like you have to spend your time making money. Start doing things that truly make you feel whole.
