WW 227: How To Reframe Failure So It Doesn't Exist - Solo Show

This week we have an off the cuff episode. I wanted to share with you something that I shared in the opening ceremony of this round of the Wealthy Coach Blueprint, and it’s on the topic of failure. A huge reason a lot of us don’t try in the first place is because of our fear of failure. So I want to help reframe failure for you so you can give things a shot and make your dreams a reality. A Quick Recap from this episode

So many of us have dreams and goals and aspirations that we never even attempt to try at because of our fear of failure and our fear of it not working out.

So how do we reframe failure so that it essentially doesn’t exist?

So many of us were brought up in a society where failure is possible and it can hinder us so much in so many other ways, especially in pursuing a dream to believe that failure is possible.

There are 2 things that I have come up with, specifically for when you are operating and trying to build a business in the online space, that will make failure real for you:

Failure exists only if you choose comparison and/or choose to quit.

1. So let’s start with comparison because there’s a lot of subtext here. We choose to believe in failure when we choose to compare ourselves because we’re constantly looking for what equals success and what equals failure.

Comparison is the worst measure of success/failure because we all know we’re looking at a highlight reel that isn’t reality.

One thing we compare ourselves to is other money coaches. Maybe they started around the same time or even after you, so you feel like you should be growing faster. Another thing that creates this illusion of failure is comparing our timeline. The last thing from a comparison perspective is our expectations. You may have gotten into this business thinking “in a couple of months, I’ll be able to…” and whatever that expectation was hasn’t happened.

If we compare ourselves to others, to a timeline, or to our own expectations, we’re allowing failure to exist. The truth is that it’s your business and you get to do it in your own time. So many people start to embody this illusion of failure because of comparison and because they look at other people or their own expectations and think they have failed.

In summary: failure doesn’t exist if we can drop the comparison.

2. Now let’s dig into quitting. Quitting is an interesting thing because a lot of people perceive it as a bad thing and I don’t think it has to be. I think it takes courage and is actually a strength that a lot of people don’t have, but in terms of failure, quitting is the ultimate thing to help you see that failure is real.

I don’t want this to sound like “quitting isn’t an option so you need to pull yourself up and make it happen” but if you’re in a situation where you don’t have extenuating circumstances keeping you from moving forward, then you can decide not to quit.

Especially in terms of building an online coaching business, you can find so many resources and low-cost options to really get started and thrive. So knowing that it is very possible and that you don’t have to pour all of your resources into it, then quitting really doesn’t have to be something that you consider.

So with that in mind, we can make quitting not equal failure. If you choose to quit, it’s a choice that you make and you say “I’m burned out” or whatever else and you make the choice to quit, then it wasn’t a failure. It was a success.

Because you get the choice to decide, quitting can’t equal failure.

Imagine, what would you do in your life if you couldn’t fail? Because that’s the truth: you can’t fail. You just try, and you try again. Even the setbacks don’t have to be failure. They can just be feedback. Stop comparing yourself and just keep trying and you can’t fail.
